Waterfalls are nature’s visual spectacles. They form and cascade down the rocks in various sizes. Some are large and offer a sight that is stunningly breathtaking. However, there are smaller falls that are equally amazing and offer a totally different feel when you are near them. The Meenmutty Waterfalls in the Thiruvananthapuram district is one such lulling presence. Located in the Neyyar Reservoir area, one has to trek through the dense evergreen forest to reach the site of the waterfall – a trek which will gift you with sightings of rare flora and fauna that are unique to the region.
The serenity of the mighty Western Ghats can be seen and experienced in every corner that surrounds the waterfall. For adventure seekers, you can take an off-road trek to the top of Meenumutty Falls which offers a spectacular view of the falls and the surroundings. To reach the Meenmutty Falls, you will have to take a boat ride from Neyyar Dam through its catchment area. The trek will start from KombaiKani tribal settlement.
The 5 km trek from this point to the falls through the dense forest range is one of the highlights of this experience. To embark on this trip, you will have to seek prior permission from the forest department. Trained ad experienced forest guides will accompany you on this trek. There is also a forest camp house nearby where trekkers can stop and relax.
